Hydrate in the Heat

Hi Everyone –

Hope your week is going well. We are halfway through! Whoo hoo! My dad is coming in town this weekend for the Iowa State Fair and the Journey concert, so I have feverishly been trying to clean and get myself organized before Friday!

My running schedule this week is right on track with a little bump in the road yesterday from an upset stomach. Monday I rocked an awesome 4 mile run with my buddies Jeni, Shelby and Olivia and we have another 4 scheduled for today after work even though it’s going to be the hottest day of the week with the high at 90 degrees with 40% humidity. Gross!

Although by comparison to a couple of weeks ago, today’s heat will be nothing. It really is amazing how heat can affect your body. For instance, how can a 3 mile run in 90 degree heat be harder than a 10 mile run in 70 degree heat? It makes NO sense, right? That is probably the most frustrating thing to deal with in the summer. I am literally forcing myself to drink an abnormally large amount of water today to prepare for the heat, only problem is I’ll end up running to the bathroom at least 20 times before this day is over!
