After 2 years in the running world and a hand full of half marathons, I am finally tackling a FULL marathon!
In this blog I want to tell you about my good training runs, my bad training runs and most of all how I get my butt out the door everyday!
So — why the complaining runner you might ask. It sounds pretty negative, right?
Anyone who has ever exercised – EVER – knows it’s not easy, you may even dread it. I suppose I always knew this in the back of my mind, but it became very clear to me last week before a training run with two of my running buddies.
My fellow runners, Shelby & Jeni (you will hear a lot more about them :)) and I were standing around Shelby’s kitchen, procrastinating, before heading out for a 4 mile run. It went a little something like this:
Shelby: “My knees hurt today.”
Jeni: “My back hurts.”
Stacy: “It’s really hot outside. Let’s get this over with.”
I stood there and thought about what we had each just said and almost laughed because this is what happens almost everyday. Different complaints, but you get the picture. BUT – one way or another we always get out the door and hit the pavement. There is some inner drive that gets us there, whether it is not wanted to make up a training run, peer pressure, or maybe you just ate one too many cupcakes that day. Whatever it takes!
The complaining runner is something everyone can relate to – whether you are a beginner or an advance athlete. The absolute best thing you can do to remedy any complaint about exercising is to lace up your shoes and get out the door. I promise you won’t regret it!
