Hope your weekend was great – I know my flew by! I had an awesome week of running last week and am ready to carry over this positive energy to this week. Since the Capital Striders didn’t do their usual long run Saturday morning I had to get a little creative with how I was going to accomplish my 18 mile run. It turns out that my running buddies Shelby and Olivia needed to run 11, so I coaxed them to doing it with me on Saturday morning.
I still needed to get 7 in before meeting them so I departed my apartment around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday morning. I had on running leggings and a tank top. I knew it would be cold for the first 2-3 miles, but I would warm up after that, right? Wrong! The wind was a killer! I was STILL cold when I met up with Shelby and Olivia after 7 miles. Ouch! I think I finally warmed up after about 15…haha. So the plan was to meet them at B-bops on 73rd at 8:30 a.m. I took the hard way there — up and down Grand. I hate that road, but I know it is part of the marathon course so I made myself do it! It was horrible for about 2 miles, but after that I got into my groove and when I got to B-bops I was feeling pretty good.
Shelby, Olivia and I took off on the Greenbelt Trail. We decided to run on that trail because there are plenty of water fountains along the way. I was still feeling really good at 10.5. I was a little puzzled why I was feeling so great, but very excited too. About mile 15 is when I really started to get tired. My knees were aching and my ankles hurt. All in all my legs where just plain tired. The only thing that kept me going was Shelby, Olivia, and visions of a big margarita that I would consume later that night!
I finally finished in 3 hours and 7 minutes. Not too bad for such a long run. I am feeling really positive that I actually finished that long run. I have a 20 mile run this Saturday before I get a little bit of a rest for the 2 weeks before the marathon. I’m feeling good and think I finally got over the running blues! Lets do this!
