Hope your week is going good. I took ALL of last week off and am getting back into the swing of things today. I spent a glorious week of eating, drinking, watching TV, sleeping in and anything else you relate laziness too (even taking the elevator up 3 floors :)). It was awesome, but by about day 4 of my laziness I started feeling blah and gross. I did not give into the temptations to go for a run though. I knew my legs/knees needed the break.
Now that a week+ has passed I knew I had to get back into shape. Since I’m not starting Kosama until next week. I want to ease into running again. Monday I started with a 2 mile walk and today I went on a 3 mile run over lunch. It was wonderful to get back out there again. My calves are a little sore, but I definitely still have that runner’s high.
So to motivate myself AND my running buddies we have decided on two upcoming local runs to participate in. The first is the Jolly Holiday Lights – Fitness Night. This one I’m really excited about! It is a 3.5 mile run in Water Works Park where they have the drive through Christmas Lights display. They are opening it up on November 18th for walkers, runners and bikers to enjoy before they open it up for the general public to drive through. Since I happen to LOVE Christmas this will be perfect!
The second one is a little more intense at 8 miles AND on a trail – the Sycamore 8. I’m not to sure at this point if a “trail” run is truly on a pathway or if we are going to be running through brush and creeks, etc. This one is December 1st so we thought it would be perfect to keep us running and up in our mileage. I know it will be cold, but should be fun to try out a new race!
I believe in using races as motivators. It’s hard to keep an exercise program if you don’t have a significant goal in sight.
