For my 9th run of the year I made the trip back to Des Moines, IA. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my friend Jeni was also going to be running the DSM’s Woman’s Half Marathon too. I didn’t have the best run, but it was so great to catch up with friends while I was in town.
Here are my stats:
- Finished: 2:17:22
- Average pace: 10:30/mile
- Overall: 496 of 948 (52%)
- Division (F 25-29): 98 of 183 (53%)
The night before the race, I met up with the ladies of the Des Moines Register Marketing Department. They were my first friends in Des Moines and the best running buddies I could ask for.
I had never run this race before so I didn’t really know what to expect. When I got to the packet pick up at Jasper Winery, I was thoroughly impressed. The signage was awesome and the swag was top-notch. We got a stemless wine glass and a nice long sleeve dri-fit pull over. I found out the Self Magazine was the sponsor of the run hence the expensive look and feel of the race.
The race started and ended at Jasper Winery, which was a parking nightmare, but a beautiful view. The race also included the dreaded Water Works circle for all of you that have run that during the IMT in Des Moines.
It was pretty hot that day, so I think that contributed to a lot of my struggle, but also the course was extremely boring, with a lot of in and outs. I was familiar with the run as I used to do a lot of training on it, but usually for shorter runs.
I’m really glad I got to make it back to Des Moines to see my friends and try out a new race. I only have 4 more run left!
Until next time – Keep Running!
